What's In Shane's Kitchen
Folks always want to know what's in my kitchen, so I gave myself a little tour, and here's what I wrote down:
- Cooking Knives: a set of good really sharp knives, thanks to my sweet husband, Alex!
- Gray sea salt: in a ramekin by the stove to have handy while cooking (ordered from www.celticseasalt.com)
- Pepper Grinder: a William Bounds pepper grinder... love it, fine, medium and coarse ground. (ordered from www.wmboundsltd.com)
- Three canisters: holding cooking utensils easily accessed while cooking: one for wooden things, one for stainless steel spoons and such and one for whisks and silicon spatulas
- Cutting Boards: one large and one small bamboo cutting boards (that really need oiling right now by the way... Alex, honey!!!!)
- Cutting Sheets: plastic cutting sheets for when I’m cutting meat on top of my wooden cutting board…(note to self, buy a real plastic cutting board)
- Fats I use on a regular basis in my pantry: unrefined “virgin” coconut oil (buy from: www.vitacost.com and www.tropicaltraditions.com just to name a few), extra virgin olive oil, cold-pressed sesame oil, and toasted sesame oil
- Dry Goods: Rolled Oats, Quinoa, brown rice, brown rice cous-cous, whole-grain pasta, gluten-free flour mixture, organic medium-ground corn meal, carob powder, whole-wheat flour, arrowroot powder for baking and thickening things, organic popcorn, coconut flour, un-sweetened coconut grated, dulse (seaweed)
- Vinegars: Unfiltered, raw apple cider vinegar, balsamic vinegar, unseasoned rice vinegar, habanero pepper vinegar for greens, you know, ume plum vinegar (salty vinegar comes from the brine of the ume plums in Asia…great on greens, brown rice vinegar and a few others I’m sure)
- Sweeteners: Unsulfured Blackstrap Molasses, pure maple syrup, sucanat/rapadura/whole cane sugar, maple sugar crystals, stevia and honey
- Nuts and seeds: walnuts, pecans, macadamia nuts, cashews, almonds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds
- "Emergency Food": Organic canned tomato products, few cans of canned beans, dried beans, dried tomatoes, chipotles, crackers, coconut milk, canned fishes such as: mackeral, saldines, (order these from www.vitalchoice.com - smoked oysters and clams, wild caught salmon)
- Lots of herbal teas, caffienated coffee for company and decaf for us every once in a while.
- Refrigerator: Tamari – wheat-free soy sauce, naturally fermented, oil-cured olives, kalamata olives, green olives, fruit spreads, flax seed oil, organic ketchup, dijon mustard, golden flax seeds, toasted walnuts, peanut butter, almond butter, tahini (sesame paste), capers, Pickapeppa Sauce…yum, fish sauce, sauerkraut (only fermented with salt), real cream, salsa, cod liver oil butter, Chipotle Tabasco Sauce, roasted red pepper chili paste, green curry, whole milk, whole milk dairy of all kinds, homemade dressings, veggies, fruits, herbs, homemade chicken stock, thawing grass-fed beef and pastured pork and chicken, pellegrino, herbal iced tea, smoked salmon, cheeses a plenty, bacon, deli meats with no nitrates and nitrites and prosciutto
- Cookware: Cast Iron skillets, stainless steel and Le Creuset (enameled cast iron)
