Good Fat Is Great
Where do I begin to tell the story of how great a fat can be? I’m dating myself now…remember the theme song from the movie with the same name “Love Story?” Honestly, I have so much I want and need to say to you about eating good fats I don’t even know where to begin.
So let me just begin with a short list of why it is so important for you to focus on eating good fats:
- Good fats will not make you fat!

- Satiety – fat is the only thing that will tell your brain that you’re full
- Fat Soluble Vitamins A, K, D & E – can’t get them without eating fat
- Fats ward off depression – your brain is mostly made of fat
- Certain fats are anti-inflammatory
- Healthy fats give you a sustaining energy
- Fats help you stabilize your weight
- Delicious fats help to eliminate cravings
- Fat in the body helps to create a beautiful complexion
- Fats are calming so they help control anxiety and mood swings
- Great fats like unrefined coconut oil boost your immune system!
What else can I say? I could get so far down into the weeds extolling the virtues of fat but, that will come later, so stay tuned. For now I just want to plant the “good fat seed” so you start to ponder the excellent side effects of good fats. I know it’s going to be difficult to reprogram your mind because we have been brainwashed for the last 30 years to believe that fat is bad and in particular, saturated fats.
Once again, my goal is to simplify and demystify this “fat thing.”
Just ponder the fact that our ancestors ate all the real fats, saturated and unsaturated for many, many years and they knew that’s how they would stay alive and feeling good. And, they didn’t have scientists to tell them to eat this fat and not that fat…they just knew by how they felt and if they were well or not.
I know you must be confused about what fats to consume and I can’t blame you…we are sent contradicting information all the time. So it’s hard to know which end is up at times. So simplify things and just eat, again what is closest to the way God made it and intended for you to eat it and as a result you’ll be healed by it.
Here’s a short list of what fats to cook with: organic whole butter, extra-virgin olive oil, unrefined coconut oil, ghee (butter without the milk solids so you can cook with it at higher temperatures), bacon drippings from bacon made with no nitrates and nitrites, yum, unprocessed lard (not hydrogenated lard you might buy at the grocery store).
Only eat the following oils raw and cold-pressed: flax seed oil, cod liver oil, sesame oil, walnut, almond, cashew and macadamia and peanut oil for a little frying. So let your “no fat/low fat” guard down and enjoy the good fats made just for you by nature to heal and nourish your mind, body and spirit!
