When taking a trip whether for work or for pleasure it’s time to start packing some real food for your journey. It’s hard enough on our bodies flying so don’t make things worse by eating a bunch of bad airport food! I give you some great ideas on what to pack for you and your family so you’ll always have something “good for you” to eat at the ready…and it’s a whole lot cheaper! So, take a listen and tell me about what good things you take to eat when flying!

Just wanted to share an hilarious birthday gift from my brother-in-love. He took a lot of time putting together this "food" collage for me and included it in my birthday card this year and I have not stopped laughing! Some might sound familiar to us. :-) Write me with some of your own new food concepts...I want to hear that this gave you a good chuckle. Happy Friday everyone and keep on keeping it real!

This week’s “recipe testing video” is going to be a video that I shot for my little show on Kitchendaily.com, “Don’t Tell Mama.” Since kids are heading back to school I thought it might be good to show you a few good ideas about what fun new things you might fix for their lunch box/bag. Foods that will keep them running long into the afternoon and not wanting to take a nap because they’ve eaten nothing but refined carbs for lunch. You know the feeling, I sure remember it. Just keep in mind...

I’ve never seen so many advertisements for flu shots and that scares me in a way. What does that tell you about the health of the American people if we’re catching every little and big flu virus that comes along? It’s time to build up your immunity people and it needs to be done through the consumption of cultured and fermented foods, probiotics in capsule form, getting enough sleep, etc., etc. Take a listen to this week’s “real food pep talk” and start to make the choice to build up your...

It was about one month ago today that Alex and I were sitting in a fabulous little restaurant with big flavors in Knoxville, TN with our good friends Jenny and Harry (who knew we'd love it) enjoying a real food meal at Rouxbarb . You gotta love the name of that restaurant and figure it was someone very clever who named it like Executive Chef and Owner, Bruce Bogartz. Bruce was precious and we all had a good time talking real, nutrient-dense foods and local farms. This Chef is walking the...

If you know anything about me you know that I will talk to perfect strangers anywhere at any time about the benefits of eating real food. You just never know how the knowledge of eating real, nutrient-dense foods might help someone. Here is the link to the testimonial of "one" such person, Kristin: http://tnbuylocal.com/benefits-of-eating-real-whole-food-supporting-local-farmers/
I want to be so clear about one point...I am not responsible for changing people's lives, I don't have...

Congratulations to Deana and her sweet family for buying most all they eat from the Franklin Farmer’s Market every week! That is my home market too and there just couldn’t be a better time of eating local, delicious fresh food…it’s coming out of our ears, ears of corn that is! So corny. O.K., I’ll stop. Deana has started a wonderful blog called www.pinksugarbowl.blogspot.com to take us all along on their journey of eating all this great food from local farmers.. So, for those of you...

My heart breaks every time I read an article like the one I read a few days ago in the Wall Street Journal called, “Worried About a Moody Teen?” The reason my heart breaks is because there is hardly ever any mention of what those moody teens are eating or what they should be eating. Because I can tell you for sure teens will have mood swings and all kinds of related issues if the bulk of their diet is low-fat, fat- free, sugar-laden, ultra-processed, nutrient-vacant foods and not enough good...

I had my first tomato of the summer season this morning for breakfast and it was really delicious! I bought it last Tuesday at the Franklin Farmer's Market (they are now also open on Tuesdays, 3pm-6:30pm and of course on Saturdays, 8am-1pm) from Rocky Glade Farm . Let me tell you it was surprisingly good since it's still early June. You may be asking, "why did this woman just have veggies for breakfast?" Well, let's just say I had a lot of fun eating lots of stuff I don't normally...

Hey there!
Call me crazy but, I have submitted an audition video to Oprah to get my OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network) TV show! My friend Leslie passed this opportunity on to me a few weeks ago and Alex and I got hopping to put together a video for submission which we just uploaded a few days ago.
Y’all know I’m on a serious mission to help change and improve the health of as many people as possible with real food and real living. Having my own TV show on a major network (Oprah is taking...

The Environmental Working Group is a "work horse" for us, the people. They are constantly researching and testing products and fruits and veggies to tell us what's good and safe to use and eat and what's not. Now, what's not to love about an organization like that? Well this morning they came out with their updated version of "The Shopper's Guide to Pesticides" where they list the Dirty Dozen (highest in pesticides) and Clean 15 (lowest in pesticides.) Now, this is all related to fruits...

And this is news? I have read several articles lately about how addictive processed food is and I'm thinking, "rip van winkle." Did these research scientists and writers just wake up from a 50 year-long nap only to discover that we have become processed food addicts? We are a fast-food and snack-food nation because we have a chemical dependency on whatever they're putting in all those foods to preserve them and to give them good flavor and "mouth feel" and it doesn't hurt that they're fast...

I’m so excited to have the chance to meet with my “Mama’s” this morning for a time of brainstorming on the Chef Shane Kelly Eating Plan. So far I’ve had about 8 Mama’s all with 2 or more chillin’s ranging in age from 2 and up cooking up my recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks…how about that? Since I don’t have children they have been an incredible help in testing my recipes on their families and giving me invaluable feedback.
This blog is to publicly thank them for...

People…I love Jamie Oliver for what he is trying to do in America with his new show, “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution!”
Jamie is going to one of the sickest and most unhealthy towns in America (as stated by the CDC), Huntington, WV and trying to change the way the kids are fed and eat in an elementary school, just for starters. He's also helping a very over weight family learn how to eat real food and opening a "free" cooking school in the center of town.
Of course I’m...

I have been trying so hard lately to stop eating when I've had a sufficiency and not just continue to eat everything on my plate whether I'm still hungry or not. This has been challenging for a girl who has always cleaned her plate and I don't think that's due to any childhood issues. I just love food and if it's good and tasty food, then I want to eat it all! But, one of the many things I learned at my culinary school, The Natural Gourmet Institute for Health and Culinary Arts, is that...
